AMS Athletics
Ames Middle School Sports
Athletics are an important part of any adolescent experience – from learning new physical skills and sportsmanship to simply enjoying the thrill of activity and competition.
Many students play sports for the sheer love of the game. But in our sports programs at Ames middle School, on top of the thrill of competing and having fun with friends, students experience benefits that support their academic, social, and emotional growth in middle school.
AMS Sports Teams
Our comprehensive sports programs offer activities for all ability levels. While we offer many competitive sports teams for our young student athletes, we also have developmental and intramural teams for students who love to play but not necessarily to compete.
We compete in a variety of sports including:
Intramural Sports
All 6th graders at Ames Middle School have the opportunity to participate in intramural athletic programs throughout the school year. These sports are designed to introduce our 6th graders to AMS’s athletic programs in a safe environment while encouraging participation and fun. Program highlights include:
- 7 sports that are offered at different times during the year.
- Fall: Cross Country and Flag Football
- Winter: Wrestling and Spirit Squad
- Spring: Soccer, Basketball, and Volleyball
- Seasons that are 4-5 weeks long.
- Practices that are held after school from 4-5:15 pm.
- All coaches are AMS staff members who have Coaching Endorsements/Authorizations.
Registration
Students will be notified through school announcements when sign up/informational meetings for each sport will be held. Parents are asked to register their students for athletics before they participate.
Calendar
All athletic events are entered into the Ames Middle School events calendar.
